the struggle is real

when first setting up my blog, I never used one before so I relied heavily on the instructions. They worked really well until it started saying “widgets” and random words I’d never used or heard before but I’m lucky enough to have a teacher so willing to help when its needed. I also was able to pick a theme that allowed the required formatting which I was happy about. One thing that I was challenging myself about in my head was how am I going to express my huge jumble of thoughts in a college level manner for this class? I think that’s where I hope to see drastic improvement in myself as the class goes on. One thing really different to me is that it seems more official to “publish” your work instead of “tweet” them or post them to your story. Hopefully that will keep me motivated throughout these 5 short weeks.

Jasmine Moore

My name is Jasmine Moore. I’m from Rochester Minnesota, born and raised. I’m the third child to my mom, Jessica and the first child to my dad, David. I have 3 siblings, an older brother, an older sister and a younger brother. My older siblings are half Cambodian and in their twenties. My older brother is deaf with disabilities so our family is very diverse to say the least.

My whole family was born here in Rochester so we are all familiar with RCTC. I’ve never been the one to dream about traveling for college, so I just assumed I would do my schooling here in town. I didn’t have an idea about my college plans until my senior year, so I went to the student resource center to talk with Jamie Johnson about my student plans. After awhile of thinking, I chose nursing because I was taking a ctech cna/hha (certified nursing assistant/home health aide) class so I could get my cna license, and work within the medical field right off the bat. I’ve always been intrigued with the medical field. Fast forward a couple weeks, I applied into the RCTC lpn (licensed practical nurse) program and honestly totally forgot about it until 2 weeks before school ended, I randomly visited Jamie and she had this huge smile on her face as she shouted “HAVE YOU EVEN CHECKED YOUR EMAIL?! YOU GOT INTO THE NURSING PROGRAM!” I didn’t realize how big of a deal it was until she explained that I was the only one who applied who met all requirements and got accepted into the program. At that point I was pretty amazed with myself, and she was too. That was a good day. The following weeks were definitely busy, and a lot to handle. I graduated Saturday, the 25th of May, continuously planned my graduation party, worked and kept up with my social life all while starting college classes Tuesday, the 28th of May.

My first day of college was definitely not what I expected because frankly, I had no idea what to expect. I never toured RCTC or got familiar with the large, confusing school, so I came thirty minutes early and asked every staff member where to go for help, or some sort of directions. Eventually I was escorted (yeah, like a famous celebrity) to the classroom. I knew we weren’t in the classroom, but these teachers looked at my schedule so of course they knew were to take me.. right? The answer is no. Luckily I explained that in the notes we were suppose to meet in a library so another walk we took. Eventually we got there, a little early too. We did our little first day of class meet and greets, got familiar with the course (somewhat) and now, here I am writing my first blog.
